[The Toucan Trilogy] is a unique take on dystopian novels. There’s no evil, oppressive government, and no true antagonist in these stories. It’s just a powerful story about a group of young adults trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world whilst still trying to cling to some semblance of their humanity.
For a young adult series, it definitely does character development in a much more honest and powerful way. If you are looking for the same clichés of evil, one-dimensional villains versus a one-girl army protagonist, these are not for you.
